Welcome to the Hot Dog Archive

A complete and exhaustive index of every hot dog prepared, served, and consumed at Hot Dogs of the World, a summer party where we make regional hot dogs from different places around the globe.

The hot dog is perhaps the perfect food to make its way around the world. Portable, pre-cooked, laden with preservatives, salty, phallic, and most importantly, delicious. Our mission is to taste as many of those regional variants as possible and catalog them.
How did we come up with this idea?

The poetic story is that all three of us met in New York, where cultures mingle and cross-pollinate like few other places, and we each hail from cities with distinctive, delicious regional hot dogs.

The obvious story is that Chrissy's birthday is on July 4, and grilling hot dogs is synonymous with the holiday that has systematically oppressed her ability to have a normal birthday party.

The most likely story is that one of us saw the idea on TikTok or Instagram, forgot about it, then "came up with" the idea a few weeks later — not unlike another American tradition of discovering things that already exist and claiming them as our own, which is not wholly unrelated to the way most of the hot dogs we’ve featured over the years have come to exist. Colonization has its silver linings, I guess.

So no matter what you call ’em—dogs, franks, glizzies, red hots, weenies, meat missiles, bangers, tube steaks, shaboings, land lobsters, or gaggers—this is where the dogs unite.
